(April 24, 2010) – Traveling from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Fort Worth Texas was an eye opening experience for a transportation professional, like myself. I learned that rural two-lane highways (Highway 330) have speed limits of 65 & 70 mph! Yikes, this is not comfortable driving for a northerner, who is used to 55 mph max speed limit on a rural two-lane. Actually, it was comfortable driving these highways in the 60 to 65 mph range (which is what a lot of folks drive the 55 mph highways in Minnesota anyway-haha).
I arrived in Fort Worth, Texas just in time to head to the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, TX (would have to head to the conference hotel after the game & check in). What an awesome sight, approaching the Rangers Ballpark, it looked like a huge spaceship, it was the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, located right next to the Rangers ballpark, and it stood out!
The Rangers ballpark is located in Arlington, TX, which is in between Dallas and Fort Worth. The Rangers played the Detroit Tigers on this night, and it was a glorious night for a ballgame! The weather was sunny, and in the mid-70’s, and the crowd ended up being nearly capacity. The Rangers Ballpark had a feel of being “large” inside, and it was completely enclosed on all sides (I’m thinking to help protect from the strong winds that they can get in this area?). The ballpark was very impressive, and enjoyable to watch a game.
I very much enjoyed watching the game at Rangers Ballpark, and the game was a good game, but the home team lost to the Tigers by an 8-4 score. Next stop, heading to the conference hotel in Fort Worth to check in, for what would turn out to me a most memorable NACE conference!
