(Friday-Monday, Nov. 26-29, 2010) – This weekend was a wonderful football weekend, beginning with a long journey (860 miles one way) to the North Coast (Cleveland, Ohio)! The weather was perfect for driving, sunny and seasonal temperatures, and we headed out mid-day on Friday, with a destination unknown (somewhere near Chicago) to stay overnight in a motel.

With some great tickets for the game, my son Matt and I were looking forward to watching some NFL football in style! We went with the two hour/ten minutes travel plan (drive 2 hours and stop/stretch for 10 minutes). We traveled through Wisconsin while daylight turned to sunset, and eventually darkness. We decided to find a motel just west of Chicago, not wanting to travel through Chicago at night, after driving all day. We decided to find a motel in Rockford, Illinois for the night and get a good night’s sleep before finishing the drive on Saturday. We enjoyed a continental breakfast, including waffles (yum), before hitting the highway again, on another beautiful sunny day! We arrived in the Akron area early evening, and visited friends and family, and enjoyed some pizza before heading to a motel for Saturday night – in anticipation of the NFL game at Cleveland Browns Stadium the next day!

We arrived at Cleveland Browns Stadium about 2 hours before kickoff (when gates open); after parking in the West 3rd Street parking lot, which was very close by. We walked around the stadium and checked out the Heritage Hall, with a lot of the history, hall of famers, and championships of past Browns seasons!

It seems just like yesterday, my dad took me to Cleveland Stadium to watch the Browns play the Steelers, it was 1972 – and the Browns won by 2 points, on a last second field goal by Don Cockroft! Now, a mere 38 years later, I’m here with my son watching the Browns in their new home – Cleveland Browns Stadium – what a wonderful feeling – so blessed!

The day was capped off with an exciting ending – and a Cleveland Browns victory, 24-23 over the visiting Carolina Panthers! What an awesome day!
